Can you change your lenten promise

In Lent, we remember Jesus who himself fell three times en route to Calvary. And three times he got back up and continued on. In Lent, as in all seasons, Jesus is our companion and guide. Start slow and build momentum There are two basic strategies when it comes to running a race — starting off as fast as you can and then holding on for dear life, or picking a workable pace and keep ratcheting it up bit by bit. Add Dua Lipa and U2 to your Lenten playlist Dua Lipa wants to make it clear that her new release Swan Song , despite the name, is decidedly not a swan song.

Catholic Trivia. More Keep the Faith. It is hard and it is a discipline and most of us fall back to our old habits after lent is over. But, as you say, it is a discipline. Lent is a time to go deep inside and take a look.

Maybe something needs to be changed, a habit stopped, etc. That is where the danger of the ego creeps in. Lent is just a good time to take a step back and do some self-examination.

Just try your best and remember to keep God in the mix. The questions are wonderful…keep asking them. It is so easy to be a Pharisee, especially when you are doing well in your Lenten promises.

My guess that, given your Lenten promises this year, it must be difficult to never slip up. You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account. At the end of the forty days, what have we learned, what has been transformed, how do we feel?

Here are a few of the teachings: I am human, I mess up sometimes. You sometimes fall as well, let us be compassionate and forgiving of each other. I can do nothing alone. I rely on God for everything. There is a beautiful humility in depending on Our Father and surrendering. After I fall, do I get up or do I stay down? The 40 days fast was done by Jesus.

He made it through the temptations and travails nearly starving to death. But we are made of lesser stuff. We are weaker and will fail. Although we share the same likeness to our Lord and wonderfully made, we sin and break down.

We lose heart. We fall. We eat what we told ourselves we would give up. We lose our patience. Well, I take that back. He made it 39 days. He stopped one day short out of reverence for Christ. This great saint shows us that the point of the 40 days is not to make it, but to fail. Lent shows us that we are weak. It reminds us how fragile we are and how accustomed to comforts we are. Therefore by breaking our resolutions, we prove this.

Thus we go to Jesus as the one who does have the power and strength to save us and forgive us for our weaknesses. Through Lent, I grow in greater appreciation for what Jesus has done for me and what he continues to do in my life to enlighten, strengthen, and free me from the darkness of sin and ignorance.
