I would personally check with your DSL provider and see which if any routers they support. I personally have used linksys routers for years and find them very easy to work with. However many games, apps, and ISP's will give you step by step instructions on how to make it work with a linksys. In the long run even though it may cost more upfront I think the linksys routers have a better Total Cost of Ownership.
One rule in life I actually learned from my late father is in the end it always seems you get what you pay for. A router and wireless card is the backbone of your home network.

Linksys routers are awesome I've got 2 wireless linksys routers and know of many clients who have them as well anytime I end up dealing with dlink wireless routers it is a royal pain in the ass Well, I ended up going to Office Max to get the Dlink, but they were out of the routers, so the guy substituted a Belkin g wireless router. So how are Belkin routers? I installed it on my machine in about 5 mins.
I called their tech support and the guy told me to return it. Should I get a Belkin one to match, or does it not matter since they are both just the Originally posted by: mtnagel Well, I ended up going to Office Max to get the Dlink, but they were out of the routers, so the guy substituted a Belkin g wireless router.

I have owned all of those and they are solid. Phooey Member. Jul 1, 42 0 0. The funny thing about this question is that 7 years ago you might have been asking; "3Com vs. Linksys is 3Com worth double? If the D-Link has the features you need and costs less go with it.
I've had good luck with many D-Link products. Nov 12, 4, 0 0. Sorry to bump an old thread, but I am still debating this subject myself. While I have no NEED to hack the linksys, I do want to really leanr about networking, so would th elinksys be better since it is hackable and adds a lot of extra stuff to it. Is it stuff that non power users would still use? Like I said I want to learn about networking, but am wondering if the extras fromt he linksys are a benefit to me.
What exactly do I get with the hacked firmware? My D-Link DSL modem would drop the connection every couple of hours requiring a restart , and my friends D-Link wireless AP used to lock up whenever you entered the network password rendering it very useful. Lasko qwest. They do not do in-house designs. Both companies are hit and miss when it comes to support I support enough routers from many different vendors to know from experience. Neither company can afford to spend a lot of money on support since the margins are so low in the products they sell. If you have good experience with D-Link or Linksys by all means stay with them.
They do not have the range or functionality of top grade like Cisco APs but have never given me any trouble. Can't say the same for Linksys products.
On the other hand I've never found a trouble free D-Link router no matter what "level" it is marketed at. I have routers which have been running for a year non-stop with 10 times the traffic going through them as a so called "top of the line" D-Link or Linksys both of which need to be rebooted every few days.
Very informative thread I guess more people voted for D-link compared to Linksys. It depends on what jeremyv wants for a router. If N, then I don't know 'cause I have no experience with them and won't comment. But if it's Also, it depends on your experience with the hardware. I personally had a D-Link DI C2 and it was good for the first 2 years until it got flakey and started to reboot when using P2P software like bit torrent.
